Type species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Aglaothamnion is Aglaothamnion furcellariae (J.Agardh) Feldmann-Mazoyer.
Status of name
This name is of an entity that is currently accepted taxonomically.

Lectotype locality: Cawsie, Moray, Scotland (Dixon & Price 1981: 138). Lectotype: undated; TCD (Dixon & Price 1981: 138). Notes: [Syn] Dixon & Price (1981: 138) "Type localities: Cawsie [Moray, Scotland], coll. Hooker and Borrer; Holyhead, coll. Davies; Bantry Bay, coll. Hutchins (Dillwyn, 1809 : pi. 106).
Lectotype: TCD, Hooker and Borrer, Cawsie, undated, labelled 'Br. Flora C. Hookeri
Cawsie Hook. Borrer', in Harvey's hand.
Other material: BM(K), three specimens.
Comments: Harris (1966) cited a K specimen, supposedly from Holyhead, Anglesey.
None of the K material mentioned above is so annotated and the specimen at TCD is the
legitimate choice of lectotype."
