The type species (holotype) of the genus Navicula is Navicula tripunctata (O.F.Müller) Bory.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Fallacia zonata (Hustedt) D.G.Mann.
Type Information
Lago Maracaibo, Venezuela; Notes: Simonsen (1987: 436) reports not being able to locate a specimen of this species in herb. Hustedt.
Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), zoned, banded, marked circularly (Stearn 1973).
