Taxonomic notes
Choi et al. (2002: 564) place this taxon in the Dasyoideae Schmitz & Falkenberg emend. H.-G. Choi, Kraft, I.K. Lee & G.W. Saunders. This subfamily also includes the genus Dasysiphonia. Schneider (2010: 655) notes that the morphology of "Heterosiphonia" japonica conforms perfectly with the generic characteristics of Dasysiphonia I.K. Lee & J.A.
