The type species (lectotype) of the genus Stenopterobia is Stenopterobia intermedia (F.W.Lewis) Van Heurck ex Hanna.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Iconella cuspidata var. giluwensis (Vyverman) D.Kapustin & Kulikovskiy.

Type locality: Papua New Guinea: Southern Highlands Prov.: Mount Giluwe; (Index Nominum Algarum) Holotype: Vyverman 436; GENT; (Index Nominum Algarum) Notes: "in aquis dulcis acidiscue montis Giluwensis" (Kapustin & Kulikovskiy, 2018: 239).
