The type species (lectotype) of the genus Staurosira is Staurosira construens Ehrenberg.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Pseudostaurosira brevistriata (Grunow) D.M.Williams & Round.

Type Information
Type locality: Belgium: Bruxelles ; (INA 1996) Type: Delogne; eaux douces; (INA 1996) Notes: According to Morales et al. (2015: 462), Grunow was very specific in designating Type No. 318 and corresponding type material in the Van Heurck exsiccata collection and fig. 32 of pl. 45 (Van Heurck 1881) as the type line drawing. Type material in BR (Morales et al., 2015: figs 107-143). In Texte p. 157 (1885) fig. 32 is sole listing under the species, suggesting a LT (INA).
