Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Spongiochloris is Spongiochloris spongiosa (Vischer) R.C.Starr.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Valeriella incrassata (Chantanachat & H.C.Bold) Darienko & Pröschold.

Type locality: “As-Sanam, Lat. 21°461 N, Long. 53°101 E Saudi Arabia; (Chantanachat & Bold 1962: 27) Holotype: soil sample; NY; 03685145 (Tchuvashov 1975: 3) Notes: The holotype is made from made from 1-month-old cultured material, and dated Sept. 22, 1962.
