Type locality: brackish water region off Inland Sea, Setonaikai, Japan (Silva 1996-to date). Type: spring-autumn 1966; brackish water. (Silva 1996-to date Notes: Published under ICZN. Bingo-nada, Fukuyama, Hiroshima, Japan Hara & Chihara (1987: 162).

Origin of species name
red tide (Japanese) (Daugbjerg, Hansen, Larsen & Moestrup 2000).

Nomenclatural notes
The original combination proposed by Y. Hada (1968: 5) was invalid under the ICN as the genus name was invalid at that time. The genus name was validated in Y. Hara & Chihara (1987: 161) but the name was attributed to Y. Hada ( Y. Hara & Chihara 1987: 162) but it is not clear if this was intentional or a misunderstanding. - (19 May 2017) - M.D. Guiry
