Syntype localities: "First found as the causer of red-tides in Tokyo Harbor near the central breakwater on September 17, 1980. Invalid in Takano (1981: 32, figs 1 A, 2-13): type not designated. Two localities mentioned. Takano (1983: 52) "Iconotypus: figs. 6 and 10.
