Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Minidiscus is Minidiscus trioculatus (F.J.R.Taylor) Hasle.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Mediolabrus comicus (H.Takano) Yang Li .

Type Information
Syntype localities: "First found as the causer of red-tides in Tokyo Harbor near the central breakwater on September 17, 1980. Later collected from seawater taken at downstream of the River Sumida, Tokyo, and Atsumi Bay, Aichi Prefecture, in January 1981."; (Takano 1981: 33) Type: figs 6 and 10 : (Takano 1981)
