The type species (holotype) of the genus Chlorogonium is Chlorogonium euchlorum (Ehrenberg) Ehrenberg.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Rusalka fusiformis (Matvienko) T.Nakada .

Origin of Species Name
Adjective B (Latin), fusiform; swollen at the middle and tapering to each end like a spindle; narrowly ellipsoid (Stearn 1973).
