The type species (lectotype) of the genus Cryptomonas is Cryptomonas ovata Ehrenberg.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Storeatula major D.R.A.Hill.

Syntype localities: Bembridge, Isle of Wight, England; saltings at the Pyefleet Channel, Essex; (Butcher 1967: 39) Notes: Type not designated by Butcher (ICBN, Art. 37). Hill & Wetherbee (1989) designated Butcher, pl. V: fig. 3 as lectotype (material from Bembridge).
