The type species (lectotype) of the genus Rhodochorton is Rhodochorton rothii (Turton) Nägeli.

This name is currently regarded as a taxonomic synonym of Acrochaetium endozoicum (Darbishire) Batters

Type information
Type locality: Valencia an der Südküste von Irland, actually Valentia, Co. Kerry, Ireland, where the animal host, Alcyonidium gelatinosus was collected by F.E. Weiss. (Darbishire 1899: 13).

Adjective (Latin), growing in animals.
