The type species (holotype) of the genus Polyzonia is Polyzonia elegans Suhr.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Dasyclonium harveyanum (Decaisne ex Harvey) Kylin.

Type locality: New Zealand; (Womersley 2003: 323) Lectotype: Raoul; on Pterocladia lucida; Herb Harvey, TCD? ; (Womersley 2003: 323) Notes: According to Womersley (2003), Adams (1994: 314) suggests the type probably came from Akaroa.
