The type species (lectotype) of the genus Dictyomenia is Dictyomenia tridens (Mertens ex Turner) Greville.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Epiglossum proliferum (C.Agardh) L.E.Phillips.

Type Information
Type locality: Ad novam Hollandiam [Australia]. Specimen vidi in collectione musei Parisiensis.; (Agardh 1822: 194) Lectotype: Saenger & Ducker; 1971; LD; 42807 (Phillips 2002: 225) Notes: Womersley (2003: 404) gives the following data: Type from “N. Holl.” (No. 24); holotype in LD, 42807: isotype in PC. As C. Agardh specified the plant in PC as "Fucus N:o 24, mus. Paris.", perhaps this should be the type.
Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), producing offsets, bearing progeny as offshoots (Stearn 1973).
