Description
Spherical cells 3-8 mm in diameter; irregular cells with cytoplasmic extensions up to 15 mm or more in length; one chloroplast with stalked pyrenoid; membranes penetrating the pyrenoid; peripheral membranous network present immediately below plasma membrane; marine; cysts unknown.

Type information
Type locality: Aquaculture tank, Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institution, Fort Pierce, FL, USA (Andersen, Potter & Bailey 2002: 58). Holotype: Field Museum of Natural History, Chicago (F) EM block RAA-666 (Andersen, Potter & Bailey 2002: 58). Notes: Isotypes: Figs 1-6.
