Taxonomic note
De Clerck (2003: 168) notes that in the description of Dilophus alternans f. acutissima, Taylor commented on a specimen in the collection of Mazé & Schramm (No. 387, BM) which was very similar to his Dil. alternans f. acutissima. The specimen was provisionally identified as Dictyota dichotoma (Hudson) Lamouroux var. prolifera, a name which had never been formally published. As Dil. alternans f. acutissima proved to be synonymous with D. crispata, D. dichotoma var. prolifera is also considered as a synonym of the latter. - (11 May 2006) - G.M. Guiry
