Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Dictyota cervicornis Kützing.

Type Information
Type locality: Vera Cruz, Mexico; (De Clerck 2003: 163) Lectotype: LD; 49170 (De Clerck 2003: 163) Notes: The name appeared first as a nomen in Liebmann (1846: 75). A description was later provided by J. Agardh. Study of the type material showed that D. bartayresiana var. divaricata is synonymous with D. cervicornis. LD 49170 was chosen as lectotype from a number of syntypes.

Adjective (Latin), divaricate, spreading at a wide angle (Stearn 1983).
