This name is currently regarded as a taxonomic synonym of Gloiocladia repens (C.Agardh) Sánchez & Rodríguez-Prieto

Type locality: near Cádiz, Spain (Silva, Basson & Moe 1996: 360). Lectotype: LD 25705 (Rodríguez-Prieto, Freshwater & Sánchez 2007: 146).

Origin of species name
Adjective (Latin), creeping, prostrate and rooting (Stearn 1973).
