Nomenclatural notes
West (1904: 198) remarked "The genus Stomatochytrium Cunningham (1888) differs from Chlorochytrium mainly in the absence of the vesicle which surrounds the gametes in the latter genus. This feature can scarcely be regarded as a generic difference." but did not proposed a new combination for the generitype, as inidcated by Wujek & Thompson (2005: 258). The combination is not found in West (1916), as stated by Gupta (2012: 32), either. It is possible that the relevant combination was made elsewhere. - (21 Jun 2016) - M.D. Guiry
