The type species (holotype) of the genus Chlorogonium is Chlorogonium euchlorum (Ehrenberg) Ehrenberg.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Chlorogonium elongatum var. aculeatum (Pascher) L.Péterfi.
Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), prickly, spine-like (Stearn 1973).
