Name introduced by Zanardini (1843: 59) with minimal description: "È interessante per la forma dei coniocisti moniliformi seriati che si

Taxonomic note
Taxon inquirendum (Cormaci, Furnari & Alongi 2014: 199), who write: "This species [type locality: Zadar, Croatia), described by Zanardini (1868: 131, tab. LXXII/A, figs 1-2), according to De Toni (1889) could be a synonym of either Derbesia lamourouxii (J. Agardh) Solier (= Pedobesia simplex) or Espera mediterranea Decaisne (= Penicillus capitatus Lamarck). Ardissone (1886) considered it, with doubt, as a synonym of Derbesia lamourouxii." - (03 July 2015) - M.D. Guiry
