The type species (lectotype) of the genus Cystoseira is Cystoseira concatenata (Linnaeus) C.Agardh.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Cystoseira micheleae Verlaque, Blanfuné, Boudouresque, Thibaut & Sellam.
