Nomenclatural note
There seems to be some disagreement over the authority for this species: Ducker (1979: 83) and Womersley & Johansen in Womersley (1996: 320) cite Metagoniolithon stelliferum (Lamarck) Weber-van Bosse 1904: 103, pl. 15 figs 9, 13. The latter authors also cite M. stelligerum (Lamarck) Weber-van Bosse 1904: 103, pl. 15 figs 9, 13 as a synonym. The following is cited in Index Nominum Algarum: Metagoniolithon stelligerum (Lamarck) 'Weber-van Bosse' Ducker. Abst. 8th Int. Seaweed Symp. [Bangor, 1974], Comb. used without explanation. - (01 May 2009) - G.M. Guiry
