Status of name
This name is of an entity that is currently accepted taxonomically.

Basionym

Type information
Type locality: In Ulva latissima copiose, hinc marinis [Vester Port at the timberyards, Copenhagen, the western gate in the wall and waterbody once surrounding the city of Copenhagen close to Tivoli, according to Jahn & Schmid 2007] (Müller 1786: 54). Lectotype: Avedøre Holme , Distr. 45a [a salt marsh just south of Copenhagen in 1964; now an industrialized area], T. Christensen 9554, 20.ix.1964 (epitype) T. Christensen; 20 September 1964 ; As described by Müller (1782): "lives on the dark green, broad seaweed, Ulva latissima, at the seashore.". C slide AT-2387 (Jahn & Schmid, 2007: 297). Notes: Jahn & Schmid (2007) designated as lectotype O.F. Müller's original drawing in 1782, his figs 2, 3, which is the same as pl. VII: figs 3, 4 in his 1786 publication (Jahn & Schmid, 2007: fig. 1).

Heterotypic Synonym(s)

Nomenclatural notes
Bacillaria is feminine, thus the masculine epithet "paxillifer" used in the original description is correctable "paxillifera". According to Jahn & Schmid (2007: 297), Höbel & Sterrenburg (2011: 18), the correct authority is (O.F. Müller) Hendey, Makinen & Moisan (2012). CAS points out that the combination was first made by Marsson (1901: 254). The combination was also proposed by Hendey (1951: 74). - (11 Jan 2011) - M.D. Guiry

General environment
This is a brackish species.
