Type locality: Scoglio Faraglione, Salina Island, The Aeolian Islands, Sicily, Italy; (Alongi et al 2007: 315) Holotype: M. Catra; 2 June 2004; epiphytic on Cystoseira sauvageauana at 12 m; CAT; 2684 (Alongi et al 2007: 315) Notes: Type is a mixture of male and female gametophytes and tetrasporophyte.
