Taxonomic note
"Ca. pluma var. micropterum Montagne. This infraspecific taxon was reported by Hauck (1882: 76) from the Adriatic Sea (Trieste, Italy) as "%u03B2 (?) microptera". It should be noted that De Toni (1903: 1257) and later also Feldmann-Mazoyer (1941: 372) reported, among the synonyms of Ptilothamnion micropterum and P. pluma respectively, P. pluma f. micropterum "microptera" (Montagne) Hauck, thinking that Hauck (1882: 76) had reduced to the rank of form Montagne's variety. However, such an interpretation seems erroneous because Hauck (1882) indicates with Greek letters varieties and not forms. The question mark after the letter %u03B2, indicates Hauck's doubt on the taxonomic rank of that taxon that, previously described by Montagne (1840: 177) at the varietal rank, had been raised by the same Montagne (1842: 261) to the specific rank as Ca. micropterum (Montagne) Montagne."
