Nomenclatural note
"The occurrence of this species in the Mediterranean Sea was first documented by Hassoun et al. (2018: 259, fig. 10/A-I) based on specimens collected along both Atlantic an Mediterranean coast of Morocco. However, it's worth noting that Gayliella taylorii had been previously recorded (with no comment) from Morocco by Riadi et al. (2011: 162). The identification of those thalli was confirmed by Hassoun et al. (op. cit.: supplementary, table S1) who, however, seem to ignore that record since at p. 244 of their paper they state that 5 taxa, among which G. taylorii, were first recorded by them from Morocco. Other records of that species (as Ceramium taylorii E.Y. Dawson) from the Mediterranean Sea were referred to as Cm. flaccidum (Gómez Garreta et al., 2001: note 23; Furnari et al., 2003) and now considered as misidentification for Gayliella mazoyerae (see above the note to Gayliella flaccida). However, such records should be checked in the light of Cho et al.'s (2008) paper." (Cormaci & al. 2023: 249). - (15 November 2023) - M.D. Guiry
