The type species (holotype) of the genus Crouania is Crouania attenuata (C.Agardh) J.Agardh.

Type locality: 5 km W of Port Noarlunga, South Australia; (Womersley 1998: 48) Holotype: Ottaway; 8 December 1980; 21 m deep on shells; AD; A52115 (Womersley 1998: 48) Notes: Womersley (1998: 49) notes that the holotype is carposporangial and the isotype (in AD, A52115) is tetrasporangial.
