Type locality: Port Phillip, Victoria, Australia; (Silva & al. 1996: 494) Lectotype: Wilson; 7April 1893; LD, Herb. Agardh; 42240 (Womersley 2003: 281) Notes: Womersley (2003: 281) gives the following data: Lectotype from Port Phillip (Heads) or Western Port, Victoria (Wilson, 7 April 1893); in Herb Agardh, LD, 42240. He notes that selection of a lectotype is uncertain but should be based on a specimen labelled “Port Phillip Heads or Western Port” and labelled “TYPUS” in LD and that J. Agardh referred to several locations in his protologue, but not to Western Port.
Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), subulate, awl-shaped, i.e., tapering from a narrow or moderately broad base to a very fine point (Stearn 1983).
