Type Information
Type locality: Hab. Ins. Auckland; dUrville [Auckland Islands]; Hab. in littore insularum Auckland ab ill. dUrville inventa; (Montagne 1842: 12) Lectotype: d'Urville; PC; MA 7475 (Asensi & al. 2002: 1-13) Notes: According to Asensi et al. (2002), two syntype collections of Chorda rimosa are preserved in the Montagne Herbarium at PC, in two envelopes: (#MA 7475 and #MA 7476), both being annotated in Montagne's handwriting. Envelope #MA 7475 (Fig. 1) contains four fragments and is labeled Chorda rimosa / Montag. / Voy. Pole Sud. Envelope #MA 7476 (Fig. 2), is labeled Chorda rimosa / Montag. / Auckland", and contains fragments of several elongated thalli (Fig. 3); the latter, containing more complete thalli, is designated here as the lectotype collection. #MA 7475 is thus an isolectotype collection. In describing Chorda rimosa, Montagne (1842) mentioned that it was collected in Auckland Islands (Hab. Ins. Auckland; dUrville), and specify (Hab. in littore insularum Auckland ab ill. dUrville inventa) during the Voyage au pôle sud (1845).
