Distributional note
Huisman (2018: 419) notes: "Price & Scott (1992: 107) reported Ceramium recticorticum from the Great Barrier Reef, but described and illustrated specimens with 4 periaxial cells and no pseudoperiaxial cells (op. cit. 108, fig. 34). They noted that Dawson%u2019s original description did not specify the number of periaxial cells, but that he described the cortical cells in %u201Cabout four %u2026 vertical rows%u201D (Dawson, 1950: 124). While this is true, Dawson%u2019s accompanying illustrations (op. cit. 131, pl. 3, figs 23, 24) clearly show 4 (possibly 5) visible vertical rows (i.e. on only one side of the thallus), and the total number of periaxial (and pseudoperiaxial) cells is therefore about twice that number. Cho et al. (2002) examined Mexican specimens of G. recticortica and reported 4 periaxial cells and 4 or 5 pseudoperiaxial cells, the thallus therefore appearing as depicted by Dawson (loc. cit.). Therefore, Price & Scott%u2019s record should be excluded." - (08 October 2018) - M.D. Guiry
