Taxonomic note
According to Strunecký et al. (2017: 119): "This species has trichomes too wide (up to 6.5 µm) to be considered [a] Geitlerinema, as well as cells that are shorter than wide to isodiametric. It requires revision, and at this point in time without sequence data or ultrastructure it cannot be reliably assigned to any genus." - (30 March 2017) - M.D. Guiry
