Taxonomic note
Leadbeater (2015: 133, 135) states: "In 2000 a clonal culture of S. micropora was obtained and for four years this exclusively produced cells with the S. micropora form of lorica. In 2004 one subculture spontaneously produced cells with the S. parva type of lorica. Since that time several culture lines have been maintained containing exclusively S. micropora, but others contain a mixture of species. Since both forms occurred in a clonal culture originating from a single cell, it has been necessary to merge the two species into one taxon, and the specific epithet must come from the first named, which is S. parva." - (15 September 2024) - E.A.
