General Environment
This is a marine species.

Description
"Thallus of algae up to 20 cm high, red-brown, branched, is attached to the substrate with a wide sole. Spiral branching is uniform. Branches of the first – second orders of unlimited growth, branches of the third order are shortened, up to 3 cm long, and the fourth/fifth orders are determinate in growth, spiny. Thorns from two to 10 mm long, cover branches of all orders, the longest - at the tops of the plant shoots. Found in the sublittoral near the middle Kuril Islands, indicated by the author of the species in the Sea of Japan." (Lopatina & Zhigadlova 2020: 397, loosely from the Russian).
