Nomenclatural note
Huisman (2018: 420): "This species was described for south-eastern Australian specimens with 6 or 7 periaxial cells per node and presumably includes many of the southern Australian records attributed to G. flaccida [as Ceramium flaccidum (Kütz.) Ardiss.] by Womersley (1978). Gayliella womersleyi appears to be more robust than any of the N.W.A. species, none of which have more than 6 periaxial cells. The type locality was given as Williamstown, S. Australia [= South Australia] by Cho et al., op. cit. 732, but Williamstown is a beachside suburb of Melbourne, Victoria" - (08 October 2018) - M.D. Guiry
