The type species (lectotype) of the genus Delesseria is Delesseria sanguinea (Hudson) J.V.Lamouroux.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Halicnide similans (J.Agardh) J.Agardh.

Type locality: "Ad Novam Hollandiam" [Georgetown, Tasmania; (Silva & al. 1996: 455) Holotype: Harvey; LD,; Herb Alg. Agardh 31740 (Harvey, Alg. Aust. Exsicc. 271 I) (Womersley 2003: 77) Notes: According to Womersley (2003: 77) the type is from Georgetown, Tasmania. Agardh (1872: 56) cited "D. Lyallii Harv. Alg. antarc. exs. n:o 271 (nec. Fl. antarct.)."
