Description: Thallus of prostrate and erect axes, irregularly, alternately or distichously branched, 2-4(-5) determinate branchlets per cell, with or without rhizoidal cortication. Procarps subapical, 4-celled carpogonial branch on one (supporting cell) of 3 pericentral cells, 2 auxiliary cells each producing gonimoblasts and carposporangia, fusion cell 2-armed, involucre of branchlets. Spermatangial heads on branchlets. Tetrasporangia adaxial on branchlets, tetrahedrally divided. Differs from other genera of Sphondylothamnieae in reproductive details.
