Original publication and holotype designation: Garbary, D.J., Hansen, G.I. & Scagel, R.F. (1981 '1980'). The marine algae of British Columbia and northern Washington: Division Rhodophyta (red algae), Class Bangiophyceae. Syesis 13: 137-195.

Description: Thallus consists of uniseriately and/or multiseriately arranged cells forming erect, microscopic pseudofilaments. Cells separated from one another by a thick mucilaginous sheath. Each cell with a single, band-shaped, parietal chloroplast with a pyrenoid. Unbranched or irregularly branched, attached to the substratum by an undifferentiated basal cell. Pit plugs absent and growth is intercalary. Asexual and sexual reproduction unknown. Growing epiphytically in the subtidal zone. At present known only from Barkley Sound, Vancouver Island, British Columbia.
