Description: Cellulce singulares. Chlorophorum unum, parietale. Membrana hyalina. Structura nulla. Area mucosa deest. Propagatio hoc tantum modo prosequitur, ut cellula pariete transversa in duas partes cequales dividitur.

ING says that this genus name was published on 14 Feb 1921, but the Nauman paper in which the Latin description appears says "Tryckt den 2 maj 1919 [Printed May 2, 1919]" at the end of the article. - (16 March 2016) - M.D. Guiry

Taxonomic note
Trebouxiophyceae (Somogyi et al. 2011: fig.11). Darienko et al (2010: fig. 1) include Nannochloris coccoides and Marvania geminata in the Marvannia-clade of the Trebouxiophyceae. Neustupa et al. (2011: fig. 22 place N. bacillaris in the Chlorellales. - (15 February 2011) - G.M. Guiry
