Original publication and holotype designation: Skuja, H. (1939). Beitrag zur Algenflora Lettlands II. Acta Horti Botanici Universitatis Latviensis 11/12: 41-169.

Description: Unicellular,biflagellate and uninucleate algae without cellulosic cell walls. Infront view cells slightly quadrangular, the anterior angles rounded with adistinct longitudinal furrow in the periplast extending subapically toposterior end, giving the posterior a bilobed appearance. Flagella arisefrom a very small, acute papilla. In side view, cells obovoid.Cells without chlorophyll and lack a stigma. Nucleus in anterior end ofcell; contractile vacuoles present in anterior or posterior end. Asexual reproduction by cell division; sexual reproduction unknown.
