Original publication and holotype designation: Abé, T.H. (1941). Studies on the protozoan fauna of Shimoda Bay. I. The Diplopsalis group. Records of Oceanographic Works in Japan 12(2): 121-144.

Description: Thecate dinoflagellates very similar to Diplopelta Stein ex Jörgensen and differing only in the first apical plate which is 5-sided in Lebouraia but 4-sided in Diplopelta. In Lebouraia, the first apical intercalary plate is much larger than the second, vice versa in Diplopelta. Cysts unknown. Regarded as not distinct on the genus level from Diplopelta by Balech and Akselman (1988), but may be regarded as subgenus of Diplopelta. Marine plankton, in coastal waters.
