Description: Small to medium-sized (18-40 µm) cell ovoid or subspherical. Cingulum slightly displaced to the apical pole so that the epicone is smaller than the hypocone, or cingulum median so that epi-and hypocone are equal-sized. Cingulum not well marked, only with a very narrow epithecal cingular list, without hypothecal list. Sulcus straight, not reaching the antapex. Plate formula: Po, 4', 3a, 7", 6c, 6s, 6"', 2"". Chloroplasts mentioned but always present or remaining food particles? Due to its weak tabulation which is hard to analyze, it originally was placed in the Dinophysiales. Most species are poorly described and some may be synonyms of the type species. Marine plankton, in warm temperate waters.

Contributors
Some of the descriptions included in AlgaeBase were originally from the unpublished Encyclopedia of Algal Genera, organised in the 1990s by Dr Bruce Parker on behalf of the Phycological Society of America (PSA) and intended to be published in CD format. These AlgaeBase descriptions are now being continually updated, and each current contributor is identified above. The PSA and AlgaeBase warmly acknowledge the generosity of all past and present contributors and particularly the work of Dr Parker.

Descriptions of chrysophyte genera were subsequently published in J. Kristiansen & H.R. Preisig (eds.). 2001. Encyclopedia of Chrysophyte Genera. Bibliotheca Phycologica 110: 1-260.
