(2020). Taxonomy and molecular phylogenetics of Ensiculiferaceae, fam. nov. (Peridiniales, Dinophyceae), with consideration of their life-history. Protist 171(125759): [1-26], 11 figs, 1 table.

Nomenclatural note
Considered as an illegitimate superfluous name when first introduced by Indelicato & A.R. Loeblich (1986), as the protologue having included the type of Ensiculifera E. Balech ex Elenor R. Cox et H. J. Arnott 1971. However, the type of Ensiculifera Balech, 1967, is Ensiculifera mexicana Balech, which was not included in the circumscription of Ensiculifera Balech, 1967 (which was validated under the ICZN and thus validid under the ICN); thus Pentapharsodinium Indelicato & Loeblich is not superfluous and is therefore legitimate. - (05 June 2012) - M.D. Guiry

Contributors
Some of the descriptions included in AlgaeBase were originally from the unpublished Encyclopedia of Algal Genera, organised in the 1990s by Dr Bruce Parker on behalf of the Phycological Society of America (PSA) and intended to be published in CD format. These AlgaeBase descriptions are now being continually updated, and each current contributor is identified above. The PSA and AlgaeBase warmly acknowledge the generosity of all past and present contributors and particularly the work of Dr Parker.

Descriptions of chrysophyte genera were subsequently published in J. Kristiansen & H.R. Preisig (eds.). 2001. Encyclopedia of Chrysophyte Genera. Bibliotheca Phycologica 110: 1-260.
