Description: Cells surrounded by a flask-shaped lorica, fixed to a substratum on one flat side. Lorica wall often encrusted with iron salts. Cell not fixed but lies free within the lorica, and has a single rhizopodium emerging through the lorica mouth. Two chloroplasts, no stigma, but 2 contractile vacuoles. Reproduction involves uniflagellate swarmers, whichfasten to the substratum by their anterior end beforeinitiating lorica formation. Stomatocysts formed inside the lorica. In freshwater, epiphytic; found a few times in Czechoslovakia and Northern America.
