Description: Medium sized (40-60 µm) thecate dinoflagellate of lenticular shape, with a median, circular cingulum and a prominent left sulcal list. Sulcus has a large flagellar pore and is restricted to the hypocone. Epitheca without apical horn and apical pore. Plate formula: no Po, no X, 4', 1a, 5", 4c, 4(?)s, 5"', 2"". As no apical pore is present, the plate formula of the epitheca is interpreted by Matsuoka (1988) as 3', 2a, 6" when describing a new species. No information on cell contents, presumably without chloroplasts. Cysts dark brown, with smooth surface. Marine plankton, in coastal waters.

Contributors
Some of the descriptions included in AlgaeBase were originally from the unpublished Encyclopedia of Algal Genera, organised in the 1990s by Dr Bruce Parker on behalf of the Phycological Society of America (PSA) and intended to be published in CD format. These AlgaeBase descriptions are now being continually updated, and each current contributor is identified above. The PSA and AlgaeBase warmly acknowledge the generosity of all past and present contributors and particularly the work of Dr Parker.

Descriptions of chrysophyte genera were subsequently published in J. Kristiansen & H.R. Preisig (eds.). 2001. Encyclopedia of Chrysophyte Genera. Bibliotheca Phycologica 110: 1-260.
