Description: Plants prostrate, consisting of irregularly branched, uniseriate filaments of cylindrical cells, after division the cells separate but still remain within the filament. Cells with parietal chloroplast, band or plate-like; pyrenoids absent but starch present. Asexual reproduction by biflagellate zoospores, 4-8 produced per cell. Zoospores with stigma and two contractile vacuoles. Sexual reproduction unknown. Diaphragma rarely reported; grows on soil among moss and in mucilage of blue-green algae. Reported from Europe and New Zealand.
