Thaurilens Pavillard, 1917
Holotype species: Thaurilens denticulata Pavillard
Publication details: Pavillard, 1917: 926
Original publication and holotype designation: Pavillard, J. (1917). Protistes nouveaux ou peu connus du plankton méditerranéen. Comptes Rendus Hebdomadaires des Séances de l'Académie des Sciences 164: 925-928.
Description: Small (ca. 20 µm) lens-shaped cell with irregularly distributed small horns. Cells seem to contain a dinokaryotic nucleus. Insufficiently described, has been seen to move but apparently no flagella. In shape, it resembles the genus Dinastridium Pascher, so far described only from fresh water. (Dinastridium, may be a cyst of another motile dinoflagellate). Also it resembles the cyst genus Stelladinium Bradford. Needs reinvestigation. So far only reported by its author in a coastal lagoon of the French Mediterranean.

Contributors
Some of the descriptions included in AlgaeBase were originally from the unpublished Encyclopedia of Algal Genera,
organised in the 1990s by Dr Bruce Parker on behalf of the Phycological Society of America (PSA)
and intended to be published in CD format.
These AlgaeBase descriptions are now being continually updated, and each current contributor is identified above.
The PSA and AlgaeBase warmly acknowledge the generosity of all past and present contributors and particularly the work of Dr Parker.
Descriptions of chrysophyte genera were subsequently published in J. Kristiansen & H.R. Preisig (eds.). 2001. Encyclopedia of Chrysophyte Genera. Bibliotheca Phycologica 110: 1-260.
