Description: Cells solitary, ellipsoid to oval, without a mucilage envelope, 12-23 x 8.5-18 µm, bearing several long spines, 40-65 µm in length which are only slightly inflated at the base. Chloroplasts discoid, 1-8 per cell, with one pyrenoid. Asexual reproduction by autospore formation. Flagellated stages and sexual reproduction unknown. Chodatellopsis planktonic, reported only in freshwater from Hungary and Ukraine.
