Description: "...differing from Synarthrophyton in being an obligate epiphyte on Gelidium capense and in possessing: 1) monoecious gametophytes (dioecious or hermaphroditic in Synarthrophyton), four-celled carpogonial branches (two or three-celled in Synarthrophyton), 2) sterile cells borne on supporting cells (on hypogenous cells in Synarthrophyton), 3) straight canals of multiporate roofs lined by non-differentiated cells (conical canals lined by differentiated cells along the base in Synarthrophyton)."
