Fossil: This is a genus of fossil species, or a genus with a fossil type species, or a genus the type species of which was originally described as a fossil.

Description: Miniscule to small murolith coccoliths that have tall narrow spines in the type species Poncillithus spinulifer that extend from a small basal disc. The spines have a narrow axial canal and are usually seen in side view.
