Fossil: This is a genus of fossil species, or a genus with a fossil type species, or a genus the type species of which was originally described as a fossil.

Description: Valves triangular, frustules subrectangular in girdle view, connected in short chains or solitary. Valve face undulate, a trifolium at valve centre. Apices with small, barely raised elevations with or without linking spines. A well-developed hyaline marginal ridge lies between apices. Mantle shallow, hyaline or with a few rows of poroids. Areolae poroid, arranged in rows radiating towards valve centre. Prominent radiating costae present on valve face exterior, primary costae extending from midway along each margin to valve centre, secondary costae extending partway. Central area hyaline, large or very small with openings from rimoportulae at its margin. Girdle bands mostly hyaline with a single or double row of poroids. Valvocopula a closed band, attached to valve interior by small clasping devices.
